Beauty Tip Thursday: Mascara

I wanted to share some tips and tricks I’ve learned over the years when applying and using mascara.  I’ve been asked quite often how I do my eyes so I figured that my first beauty post would be about that. From the many makeup tutorials and demonstrations I’ve watched they always say to enhance your best features with your make-application. For me, that’s my yes. I always try to draw the focus to my eyes, because I know you ladies will agree with me, everyone has something that they don’t like about their bodies. Instead of focusing on what we don’t like, let’s enhance what we do like. Like I said, that’s my eyes.

Tip #1: Always curl your eyelashes prior to putting mascara on them. When I curl my eyelashes, I always do 4-5 pumps of the eyelash curler while moving it outward slightly. I will also run in under hot water to warm it up a little, then dry off the curler and curl my eyelashes. *disclaimer, make sure it’s not too hot so you do not burn yourself.

Tip #2: Always use 2 different types of mascara. I use Lash Stiletto by Maybelline and Waterproof Lash Stiletto by Maybelline.

Tip #3: For fuller eyelashes rub the mascara wand back and forth at the base of your eyelashes and then pull out. I do my first mascara and then I will use a waterproof eyeliner marker on the top of my eye, and then a regular eyeliner pencil on the bottom (black of course)

Tip #4: Use A LOT of coats. I do like 20+ coats to make my eyelashes really full and dark to stand out.

Tip #5: If you’re almost out of mascara and you don’t have time to go to the store, put a few drops of contact solution (that’s safe for the eyes) in your mascara tube. Shake it, and it’ll hydrate the dried mascara in your tube and you’ll be good to go!

Here are some pictures of the different ways I wear mascara and how it makes my eyes look.

In this picture I did my left eye with only one type of mascara and just a few coats. On the right side, I used eyeliner, two mascara’s and lots of coats. It’s a HUGE difference!
here’s a close up so you can really see the difference. When I want to have a more casual look, I wont use eyeliner and will only use one type of mascara.
This is just one type of mascara on the top and the bottom
This is just one type of mascara only on the top. But wearing the dark lipstick helps to offset the eyes.
And here I am with two mascara’s and eye liner. It’s amazing what you can do with make-up. The focus in this is my eyes.

I made an application video to show you how I apply my mascara. I think visuals always help.
